Founded in response to the growing need for a collaborative platform within the environmental sector, ECONET brings together diverse stakeholders — including community-based organisations (CBOs), experts, researchers, and policymakers — to develop inclusive and sustainable solutions for ecology and livelihood challenges. Over the years, ECONET has established itself as a pioneer in the development sector, creating a credible space for dialogue and action on issues of environmental governance, forest rights, and community well-being. Its initiatives have addressed a broad spectrum of themes, including water conservation, large dam impacts, protection of sacred groves (devrais), biodiversity conservation, forest protection, and promotion of forest-based livelihoods through non-timber forest products (NTFPs) and wild food resources.

Through its sustained efforts, ECONET continues to advocate for the rights, cultural identity, and ecological resilience of communities whose lives are intertwined with forests and natural ecosystems.

Youth for Unity and Voluntary Action (YUVA) is a non-profit working with the marginalised to empower them and help them access their rights. YUVA’s on-ground interventions are complemented with advocacy efforts and policy recommendations. Founded in Mumbai in 1984 currently, YUVA is present at locations across Maharashtra, Assam and Jharkhand. YUVA partners with marginalised populations in cities who often live in climate-sensitive regions and are exposed to the brunt of climate change at their places of residence and work. We attempt to understand the effects of climate change through the perspective of the urban poor. Through their experience, we carve out local adaptations, strengthen their ability to respond and devise inclusive policy guidelines.
